Baseball is Wrestling

As you get older, it’s funny what things you love fall by the wayside, and even funnier when they come back at seemingly random times and in unexpected ways.

While it was a pre requisite to love hockey growing up (and I did and do), baseball sang to me from a young age. Being a die hard Expos fan for as long as I can remember (I admittedly cheated on them for the Blue Jays in the early 90s for purely World Series reason prior to the heartbreak that was ‘94 and beyond… since I live in Toronto now, I like to say it was a premonition)

Of the many reasons I was destined to be the kind of wrestling fan I am, I had forgotten how baseball helped set the stage in some ways.

Thanks to a well timed podcast episode drop today, I was reminded just how deep the love went. Field of Dreams, A League Of Their Own (recently, the incredible TV series remake), Major League, Bad News Bears and more were things I’d watch and rewatch. I had encyclopedias of stats… I followed it all!

But back to the wrestling of it all:

Baseball is enjoyed differently on TV vs in person; Majors vs Minors

Baseball, both just as a sport as well as the behind the scenes drama can be seen, enjoyed, hated, and debated on multiple levels

Baseball can seem boring, or the rules too convoluted to a new initiate to the sport

Baseball has lore that can both enhance and detract from the enjoyment of the game, and you can either Choose to ignore or embrace it as you see fit.

Baseball is wrestling.
